The "Kurdish Problem"

While we have not been exposed to a broad segment of the Turkish population, the people we have met seem to have a largely positive (if perhaps a little paternalistic) view of the Kurds.  The schools provide special scholarships for Kurds, etc.  Several people have noted how they have been mistreated.

The readings that I have done on the topic seem to indicate that the "problem" is not the Kurds themselves, but the PKK organization that has engaged in terrorist violence for years to gain Kurds more rights.  It seems that the time is ripe for more rights to be extended, so perhaps the violence can come to an end too.
