Armenian Orthodox church

We briefly visited an Armenian Orthodox Church upon our return to Kayseri from the mountatin.  The church was in a neighborhood that was clearly in the process of redevelopment.  Old crumbling stone houses were being demolished as new apartments were being built.  The church does not have a worshiping community in the city (there are only 3 Armenians living in the city at this time), but is filled several times each spring as Armenians from elsewhere in Turkey that come to celebrate special holy days there.  The Patriarch of the Armenian Orthodox Church has authority over this building and has provided funds for its upkeep and recent restoration.  There is a groundskeeper (Deacon?) who keeps the building open daily for visits and prayers.

The pews are a relatively recent addition.  Previously worshippers sat on the floor.
