Travel saga continues

We headed to the Chicago airport around 2:00 to catch our 5:00 flight to Toronto, then London, then Istanbul.  When we checked in, the board was reading that there was a 30 min delay for the Toronto flight!  I couldn't just sit still and hope that everything would be ok.  We only had a 2 hour window in Toronto and I did NOT want to spend another night in North America.  I got on the phone with American reservations (again) and asked if there was any other way we could be re-routed.  The woman took a LONG time, but in the end was able to book us directly to London instead of Toronto.

We are now sitting in Heathrow waiting 8 hours for our flight to Istanbul.  We have no idea of our luggage has come across the Atlantic with us or not.  We'll find out in Istanbul.

Although this whole process has been very exhausting and frustrating, upon reflection I have to note that they have effectively gotten us where we needed to be with largely very polite service.  I remember the days when every airline had its own software and could NOT talk to each other.  You simply had to arrive at each destination, go to a service desk and hope that they could help you on your way.  This has been much better than that old experience.
