Amsterdammers and their bikes

Boy are these people patient with visitors to the city who inadvertantly step into bike lanes.  Most would just gently shake their heads and wait until we realized where we were and jump out of the way.

It was fun to see all the different kinds of bikes.  I didn't really have a chance to get pictures of all the different styles, but their were ones with carts on the front, baskets on the front, kiddie seats in the back and/or the front, and people riding sitting side saddle across a back platfrom while someone else pedaled.  My favorite as a little boy about 3-4 standing on the small platform on the back, holding on to his dad's shoulders with a huge grin on his face as he looked over his dad's shoulder.

The scope of the bike parks was amazing.  There are approximately 600,000 bikes in Amsterdam, about the same as the number of people.
