St Peters, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon

The afternoon went quickly with a fair amount of walking and far too many other tourists pressing around us.
We didn't go in today because we have a tour of the Sistine Chapel tomorrow, then we will climb to the top of the Bascilica to view the city.

The Trevi fountain was Packed with people.  We got gelatto, took some photos and moved on to a less crowded location.

Visited the Pantheon, one of the oldest in tact buildings in Rome dating back to approx 50 BC.  It was the largest domed building to be built of brick.  There is a large circular hole in the center of the ceiling. When it rains there are several drains in the floors.  It was original a temple to the ancient gods, but is now a Catholic worship space.  The marble there is beautiful.

We stopped in at St. Ignatius de Loyola church on our way back to the hotel.  We learned about some interesting paintings on the ceiling (not well pictured here).  The words Europe, America, Asia and Africa were on the ceiling.  Above each was a powerful women riding an animal:  Europe - horse, America  - a Native American on a puma, Asia- on a camel, and Africa on a crocodile.  The Jesuit missionaries went around the world spreading the gospel and instead of teaching others the European languages, they learned the native tongue.
