Kayseri factory

Our last stop for the day was at a factory that makes mattress covers: Boytek.  We got a tour of the facility and then a visit with the creative designer and showroom marketer.  The company was founded  just 8 years ago and has grown 30x since its founding.  It makes 60 million mattress covers each year and has over 1,200 different designs to choose from. These designs include one that smells like chocolate milk, one that has ground amythest stone incorporated into the fibers for positive energy, and one made of a special NASA fabric that kills radio waves (and cell phone signals).  The marketing rep talked about needing to know the preferences of different cultures in order to market to them.  The Germans are not interested in any fabric that has colored patterns on it.  They just wanted white.  The Morrocans on the other hand love the bright colors and patterns.

David got selected to do a demo of one of the fabrics.  His balance was tested first, then they draped the fabric around him for 5 minutes then tested him again.  He said he felt like he had better balance.  Interesting...

It was fun being treated to tea and sweets while they showed us all their different designs.

The green are yarn threads coming down off of giant rolls of thread into the weaving machine.

This was a knitting machine instead of a weaving machine.  The fabric this produced was stretchy.  The machine had fans circulating around the top to keep all the moving parts cool.

Giant machines washed, dried and ironed long stretches of fabric and then folded it in this bin.

We were given the royal treatment in the showroom.

The guy in the blue suit is their chief designer - the one who came up with chocolate scented matress covers!
