This flower is made of steel and aluminum and was installed in the UN plaza in 2002. It has a mechanism to open and close at sunrise and sunset, but was disabled in 2010. It is uncertain whether it will be repaired because the company that installed it with a 25 year warranty (Lockhead Martin Buenos Aires) was nationalized in 2009. It is symbolic of the hope that comes every day with the rising sun.
