Local Craft Fair

We had a most excellent day exploring the beautiful crafts of local artisans.  We discovered the market a few days ago and were told that Sunday was the big day when all the booths were filled, so we ventured back today to see what there was to see.

There were at least 100 booths set up.  We got there early (around noon) and it just got busier and busier all day long.  You can see people picnicing.  Kids were playing soccer.

Each of the booths can only sell handmade items, and all the people were the actual artisans.  Some spoke good English and elaborated on their goods.  Very interesting.

David and I were both fascinated by these tea containers (Mates? cups)  They are often carved from gourds.  The practice is to cram them full of tea leaves and pour in hot water, then use the straw, which has  filter on the end, to sip the tea.  Then refill with more hot water until all the favor has been seeped out of the leaves.  First cup = very strong!  We saw quite a few people walking around with these throughout the day.

Tea cup "straws". (They look kind of like spoons but that's the filter end).

I finally found the street art!  The majority of painting were tango scenes with sexy women pressed against men, so I didn't feel bad about the city scape that I had found earlier in the week.

Argentina is famous for its cattle - and beef, and consequently, leather goods.  There were lots of shops with handbags, wallets, etc.
Lots of beautiful jewelry, some with stones others made of glass or silver.
Children's toys (mostly wooden)
A few random pop culture shops.

We finished the day sitting on a park bench listening to several different Spanish guitar players.  They were both very good!
