You have to look very hard to find a gas station in the center of European cities. They are around, but pedestrians don't accidentally run into them. This one was a block from the Louvre, but was inside what looked to be a parking garage. David read in the paper later that day that with a labor strike among oil refinery workers that the lines for gas were quite long as people tried to fill up in case there were shortages.
