Visit to Nellfield Cemetery

This old cemetery is just down the street from our B and B in Aberdeen.  Most of the graves date from the 1850-1870s.  Some of the head stones were quite unique.  I was most fascinated with were the inscriptions.  There was a lot of detail, including the occupation of the person (usually his wife and children, many of whom died young).  Occupations included:  Gardner, Fruiterer, Shipbuilder, school master, black smith, shipowner, pianoforte maker, brush manufacturer, professor of natural philosophy, wool merchant, and others.

There weren't a lot of sculptures, I found this one very realistic and pretty.

Lots of Celtic symbols.  I'm not sure what the center one is with what looks like a dollar sign, but it was on many of the stones.

This one even gave the age of the deceased in months:  50 years and 4 months...as well as all of his children.  4 years and 3 months, etc.
