After our catacomb tour, we were caught in the mid day "break" between 12:30 -1:30 when the gift shop, food, and bus service were all closed down. We found a nice green field surrounded by trees and just laid down to relax. A group of children from a Catholic school were playing ball in the field with a sister and priest. Delaney stood on the edge of the group dying to play and was soon invited in. The kids knew a little English, but not a lot. She played with them for an hour with great delight. It was the highlight of my day to watch her make new Italian friends.
We had been told that the catacombs mostly look the same, so we decided not to go to the second site. We rode the bus back around to the city and made it home again by 3:00. We had a late lunch and just relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. (David explored the neighborhood on foot, but I was content to just nap and read).
