After our landing at the airport with strong warnings about bringing in banned biological items, I've been a bit sensitive to environmental themes on the trip. I would expect with such a beautiful island, that recycling, and other eco-practices would be very obvious, but its been less obvious than I expected.
This was provided for one of our take away meals, but everything else has been plasticware.
Loved this idea of providing single small handtowels (wash cloth sized) for drying at a restaurant in Matamata. There was a collection basket under the sink. Probably not workable on a massive commercial scale, but worked well for this small restaurant.
Sign in our B and B in Rotorua. Each house has had specific instructions regarding recycling. I'm guessing this is related to different norms in the places people are visiting from.
Strong ability to "eat local"
Baked with 100% NZ flour.
Spices packed in lightweight cardboard boxes.
So much produce from New Zealand - although China, US, Australia, and Malaysia were also seen on signs.
The grocery store sold this brand that did "refill stations" for lotions and other personal care products.
Loved to see this new packaging for spices. Compostable bags and cardboard boxes with small packs for spices.
