Arrival in London

We got in at 11 am a decided we were tired enough that we didn't want to try to store our luggage and see central London at all (our original plan until the delayed flight).  No ATMS were working at the airport, but fortunately we had some cash to exchange.  When we finally did try another ATM later in the day, our cards did work. Yay.  Took the tube to Waterloo station - first time I've used the lifts in the tube stations since we were not about to lug our one 70 lb suitcase up the stairs!  We had a spot of trouble getting train tickets - 7 out of 10 self service machines were out of order and the 3 that were working did not take credit cards.  We selected 5 tickets to Bournemouth, but the machine had a limit on cash transactions that did not cover all of our tickets.  Rather than getting the 33% discount for a group of 5, we had to purchase 3 and 2 and pay full price.  Bummer.

I was glad we were the first on the tube with all our luggage.  People would look at all the luggage as they were considering getting on a each station and simply move to another door.  Kind of embarrassing, but what can you do.

We had to pile the luggage in the handicapped seating on the train.  Also not ideal, but there was nothing else we could do.  I was glad the train was not full.  Our host mentioned that the trains and metro are running about about 30% capacity because of reduced demand for public transport right now.  It was definitely not crowded on the train or metro.

Happy to arrive in Bournemouth:  Gateway to your Future :)
