Taxi ride and tour

My day began with a taxi ride to the tour agency and tour bus for the Pyramids of Teotihuacan.  Two other members of the group joined me.  We piled in the cab and drove into the center of the city (about 30 mins).  Some random things I noticed:  on one side of the highway was a military complex whose walls were completely graffiti free, and the random building walls on the other side of the highway which were covered with graffiti.  The city buses along the major routes are double long (and sometimes triple).  They travel along a reserved center lane and stop at elevated stations that are in the median.  People walk down the platform and cross at the intersections when they get off.  The "walk" light has an animated person walking and a timer countdown.  As the timer approaches 0 and the light is about to turn, the person starts walking faster!  I loved this!

A good picture of the old and new which abound in the city.

We combined with 16 other tourists who were Spanish speakers, so our guide alternated between English and Spanish.  Unfortunately, the quality of the sound system in the bus was rather poor, so I understood very little of what she said even when she was speaking in English.  Its too bad because this kind of background information about the city and its sites is what I really love.
