Oslo - Day 1 - Radhaus - City Hall

For our first night we were invited to a reception with the Mayor of Oslo and got to tour city hall.

This is the Grand Hall and is where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded each year in December.  All of the paintings throughout the building are by Norweigan artists.

View from the 2nd level balcony.
This is a picture from the Nobel ceremony in the hall.

View of the harbor from City Hall.

Banquet Hall

Painting showing people at ease on the beach.  They are naked and there is no indication if this was long ago or recent (a timelessness).
There are two doors that interrupt the painting at the bottom.
When the 2nd one was installed, the artist modified the painting to have the boy sticking his tongue out at this disruption.
Little boy peeing on the right (lol)
This table is only ever occupied by the king when he is in attendance.
This is the Eastern Gallery outside the City Council chamber.  One wall captures the busy cityscape.

This one shows a huge stump being removed with a tripod device.
The other wall shows the peaceful countryside.
There are menacing insects at the top that symbolize the Nazi occupation (a common theme through many of the paintings)

The paintings in this room were my favorites.  So much to look at with such bright colors.
This is the City Council chambers.  One of the council members was with our group this week.  She is just graduating with her BA and has been serving since her freshman year.  They meet once a month and serve on one committee.  There are a total of 57 members.  They are all members of the 9 national political parties in the country.
Throwing him in the water with a mill stone tied around his neck.
Saint floating on the surface with the millstone floating next to him.
Arrow stylized chandelier
Arrows on the carpet
St Hallvard on the front of the building holding 3 arrows.

Bear that is defending the Queen from the Nazis.
Many paintings include a burst of Norweigan flags to show the triumph of the country.
In the Great Hall again
