Clear cutting

Throughout our visit we have seen clear cut patches of forest that are particularly unattractive.  The area is left with no trees and a lot of heavy debris on the ground.  We could not figure any kind of pattern about which areas were cut or why.  We did see some evidence of replanting, both of evergreens and of whatever kind of tree was contained in these support tubes (it looks like a broad leaf).
