We started the day taking the underground to Westminster. They had finally finished the renovations of Big Ben and the scaffolding was down. Not all the clock faces were reading the same time, but I guess the stone work was in good repair.
The Extinction Rebellion was protesting in the park across from Parliament. There were not a lot of people around, but there were several posters (I didn't get a picture). The one I liked said something like "Stupid police, stop taking down our posters".
Always a pretty site. We didn't go inside this time.
We had a stroll through beautiful St James park headed toward Buckingham palace, and timed it just right to see the changing of the guards.
It was a beautiful sunny day!
We didn't get there early enough to push our way to the palace fence, but given the pandemic, I was happy to climb up on a wall in the garden and watch from a distance.
After the changing of the guards, we had a picnic in Green Park and then made our way to Leicester Square to the Apollo theatre to see a matinee of Wicked.
We stopped to listen to several street performers who were pretty good. Carson really liked them and put in several pound coins into their hats. We stopped by a candy store (which weirdly just had a lot of American candy). Delaney said that the variety of American candy is not readily found in the UK, so these 'specialty' stores were a big deal. They even had Lucky Charms.
We wound our way through China Town and found the theatre. We were there early, thank goodness, because I looked closely at the theatre and it did NOT have Wicked on the signage. I pulled out my phone and looked again and realized there was an Apollo theatre, near Leicester Square and a Victoria Apollo theatre near Buckingham Palace. We were in the wrong place! We hopped on the metro and made it to the right theatre with some time to spare. The show was amazing!
